Name: Parry Sample
Occupation: Outside In - Supporting Homeless Youth Previous Bike Experience: Bikes have been a love of mine ever since I can remember. In elementary school I spent most afternoons with the neighborhood boys jumping my brother's BMX bike off whatever we could turn into a ramp. Flash forward 15 years - a lot of mountain biking, commuting and some pretty rough cycling accidents later - I got into fixed riding mostly out of necessity. I was super broke couldn't afford rent and trimet. One of my buddies had a janky Jamis track frame that was 3 sizes too small and it had been hit more times than any of us cared to think about. When we put the bike back together we couldn't find brakes and definitely couldn't afford to go buy some - thus I began riding brakeless fixed. Currently I commute on fixed bikes year round, do distance riding in the summers and poked around at CX races last fall. What do you do for fun: Ride Bikes, Boulder, Go to Shows, and I try to hang out with my favorite humans as much as I can (And snacks. I really like snacks.) What does it mean to you to be on a W/T/F team here in Portland?: I'm super stoked about it!! As a queer person I have wished that there was a larger women's and queer presence racing. I am excited to get to know more W/T/F folks that are also into cycling and hope that more keep showing up!! Goals for the 2017 season: meet more people who also love bikes, get comfortable racing track, and ride a century fixed Something Random About You: My first job was making balloon animals at a Chick-fil-A. |
